Details

Head fitting - 11 mm Ø. For 11 mm Ø round mast tubes and 11.1 mm alloy GROOVY mast section. Suitable for use with 36R, IOM and similar size boats.

Now much copied, this is the original mast head fitting that is a push fit into the top of a mast. The design incorporates the upper limit mark, a hole for the mainsail head swivel and attachment for the backstay crane.

Use backstay cranes ref. 22-040 or 22-025 (22-025 for No 3 rig only) on the standard unit. Use 1.5 mm Ø wire for the mainsail head swivel ref. W150.

The original version is grey colour and meets the rule requirement for the limit marks to contrast with the colour of the spar.

On the standard version the special lug provides attachment for SAILSetc wind indicator ref. 100. Drill a 1.6 mm Ø hole in the mast and use an O ring, ref. 82-010, to secure the wind indicator. No lug provided on the revised version.

The revised version has a central hole for the wire head fitting to allow the head of the mainsail to rotate more freely - it is supplied with a slightly different backstay crane and requires a slot to be cut in the foreside of the mast in order to fit it. Suitable for round tube masts with a wall thickness maximum 0.60 mm. Not suitable for use with GROOVY mast. By rotating around the mast centreline the projected area of the head of the sail is increased marginally.

Both options can be supplied fitted with a lower bearing and the wire for the sail head.

The standard unit is grey and contrasts well with all mast colours. The revised version is black and may need to be coloured for use on black masts to comply with the requirements for the limit mark. The silver uniPAINT MARKER made by Mitsubishi works well for this.
