Use item INS-080 to make a secure connection for the ballast to the fin that allows the ballast to be removed.

This design has a lower centre of gravity than the earlier version and a wider span at the trailing edge. The fore and aft sections are aligned at progressively different angles to reduce drag both when the boat is upright and when sailing to windward. The shaping also works to keep the boat well balanced when sailing to windward at larger heel angles. The effect is as if the boat has additional stability and steadiness when well heeled. Induced drag is reduced by virtue of the larger span. Experience with the A Class SWORD indicate that any performance loss in light airs is not very significant compared with the benefits elsewhere.

Self adhesive coarse abrasive paper bonded to 3 mm ply to make a 'file' is excellent for fairing the surface after using a Surform blade. The 40 grade is particularly useful to start with followed by 120 grade . See SAILSetc product WD-COARSE.
