Fin 7% t/c - M or 10R

Quick Overview

Fin, for M/10R, 780 mm length. Maximum chord 117 mm at a distance 85 mm from the top and 70 mm chord at bottom, with lower 200 mm parallel. In clear carbon finish. Finished to section. Weight with the solid core, approx. 225 grams. Weight with the corrugated core, approx. 200-205 grams.

The lighter version is perfect for Marblehead class. Choose the version with corrugated core for a slight weight saving and stiffness benefit. This is especially important for Ten Raters where the mass of the ballast will be larger and the ability to resist lateral and torsional deflections is more important.

* Some are now finished in clear epoxy.

Details

Fin, for M/10R, 780 mm length. Maximum chord 117 mm at a distance 85 mm from the top and 70 mm chord at bottom, with lower 200 mm parallel. In clear carbon/epoxy. Finished to section. Weight with the solid core, approx. 225 grams. Weight with the corrugated core, approx. 200-205 grams. The version with corrugated core is about 3% stiffer giving it a stiffness/weight ratio about 14% higher.

The solid core version is perfect for Marblehead class. Choose the version with corrugated core for a stiffness benefit and slight weight saving. Using the corrugated core version is especially important for Ten Raters where the mass of the ballast will be larger and the ability to resist lateral and torsional deflections is more important. It is post-cured to 50 degrees C.

The fin with the corrugated core provides the best balance of stiffness versus weight of any fin that we have tested to date, giving an edge in stability over any other for a given drag regardless of the length of fin or ballast weight chosen. These fins are truly remarkable pieces of engineering and craftsmanship.

Use with fin box/mast tube moulding, ref. 344D-CF or 338D. For a secure and removable attachment to the hull use item INS-040. For a secure and removable connection to the ballast use items INS-030 and INS-SEAT.

Will this fin fit my boat?

If your boat was built by SAILSetc after 1990, yes. After that time all SAILSetc boats were built with a rectangular cross section fin box of sufficient width to accept virtually any viable alternative fin. This had several advantages - any ‘better’ fin could be used at a later stage and adjustment to the fore and aft position of the fin could be made to fine tune the balance and transverse adjustment could be made to correct any mis-alignment of the fin with the centreline.

If your boat has a fin box that is made to fit the head of the fin like a glove you will need great skill to fit one of these fins, sorry. On the other hand, if the builder has used a fin box similar to the SAILSetc concept, you should have no problem. Further details are given in our FAQs pages here.
