Boom band only - metal - various Ø
Details
Boom band only. Nickel-plated brass band only.
Choose from 8 mm, 10 mm or 15 mm Ø.
Uses
Particularly useful for adding reinforcement to a timber spar where a hole will be drilled to take a load. For example, at the mast head, forestay attachment or boom ends.
Bonding the band in place
The inside of the boom band has to be thoroughly abraded before bonding. Clean the abraded surface with acetone. Treat the outside surface of the mast or boom tube in the same way. Mask one side of where the band will be positioned with protective tape and wet with epoxy resin the area on the spar that will take the band. Then add some thiockened epoxy resin to the bonding area. Wet the inside of the boom band with epoxy resin. Pass the band onto the spar and into position. Remove excess resin with a tissue and leave to cure until the resin has cured to a medium hard stage (usually 1 to 3 hours for normal epoxy resin depending on temperature). At this stage it will be easy to clean the excess resin from the work with solvent very easily without disturbing the bond of the band.
The carbon versions, ref. 50, should be used on carbon spars to prevent corrosion.
