Set of deck patches for SAILSetc boat

Set of self adhesive deck patches for use with a SAILSetc built boat – 3 patches for the rc access and one of each of the others.

Cut from self adhesive Dacron which does not leak or degrade with exposure to UV light. Whereas plastic films become brittle with exposure to UV and the cold, this material will minimise the risk of sinking if used properly. Colour/various.

Applying the patches

To apply the deck patches with the minimum of effort and error keep a small jar of water to which some liquid hand soap has been added. Use just enough soap to allow the water to be spread all around the deck surface where the patch will be fitted without the water pulling back to leave dry areas. Peel off the backing material and place the patch over the aperture. The soapy water will allow you to move the patch around until properly placed and taut. In warm, dry, weather it may take 30-45 minutes to dry. Allow double that time if cold.

Vent the boat

Always remove the patch over the rc equipment after sailing to allow the inside of the boat and the rc gear to dry properly. Save the patch onto the backing sheet for re-use if it is clean. Wash in fresh water if contaminated with salt water. Replace the patch with new if the adhesion has been lost.

Removal of patches amd adhesive

After removal of deck patches or sail marks there will usually be patches of adhesive remaining on the hull or sail surface. From the hull these are best removed using a small scrap of deck patch material repeatedly applied and removed. This can remove the majority of the adhesive. Remove the adhesive from sails and the remainder from the hull using solvent. Cellulose thinners is an effective in our experience. Adhesive cleaner sold by EVO-STIK works very well. Acetone is less effective but does work.
