Gooseneck - custom - IOM & other small

Details

Gooseneck - custom gooseneck for IOM & similar small classes.

The most popular options for the IOM and other small classes are 005M, 005P, 011M, 011P. But there are many other possibilities and options. This page allows the browser to specify the design of the item he wants.

All the goosenecks have the following features:

- Gooseneck body that fits a mast easily
- Drill and fasteners to attach gooseneck body to the mast.
- Boom end fittings that fit the specified boom easily
- Supplied with instructions/diagram.

Choose the following features:

- Type of bearings - ball raced or standard
- Type of body - plastic for 11/12.7, with or without mast ram, plastic for 10/12, or metal
- Type of boom end fitting - SAILSetc, round, Variant or none (i.e. the tang only)
- Type of kicking strap (vang) - normal or extended kicking strap

Thanks to Colin Mason for suggesting a neat way of adding an eye to the forward end of the boom for the Cunningham control line.

Axis alignment

The design of the gooseneck body ensures it is aligned with the mast perfectly. If the effect of a tilted axis gooseneck is required (also known as adjustable axis gooseneck, variable axis gooseneck) then, for the versions WITHOUT mast ram, it is a simple matter to place a packer of the required thickness under one end of the gooseneck body before it is fixed to the mast tube. Use deck patch material or other self-adhesive material to achieve this. 0.9 mm thickness will tilt the axis by 1 degree. One layer of SAILSetc deck patch material will tilt the axis by 0.1 degree.

Maintenance of the bearings used in this product is described here.

The gooseneck/kicking strap units without mast ram will also fit the 12 mm 'groovy' mast section marketed by Cap Maquettes in France and Cornwall Model Boats in the UK.

Kicking strap is the English language term used for the adjustable connection between the lower end of the gooseneck and the boom. It is also known as a vang.
