For people who like to be able to remove jib without cutting the jib forestay, Lynn Kreibig has devised a system that enables easy disassembly. (see photos)

Lynn has adapted the SAILSetc main boom forward end fitting 103BR-100 to serve as the headsail boom forward end fitting. As this fitting is partially hollow, to fully support the counterbalance weight shaft, the back of the fitting is filled with epoxy. When cured, drill a 2.0 mm hole down through the fitting aligning the hole with the slot. The double ended eye, formed from 1.2 mm diameter wire, is retained underneath by the counterbalance weight shaft - the upper eye is used for the headsail tack downhaul (Cunningham).

To allow the lower eye to seat close to the fitting and the counterbalance weight shaft it is necessary to countersink the underside of the fitting a little - some care is needed here.

Lynn reinforced the end of the boom tube with a 3.5 mm length of brass tube to prevent splitting at this crucial point. We suggest using one of our boom bands, 48-110, to avoid corrosion. The screw that is visible in the photo locates the band and also serves as a lock screw for the counterbalance weight.
