Gooseneck - custom gooseneck for a custom mast

For streamlined section (pear-shaped) masts, or any mast that is not round in section where our normal goosenecks cannot provide an off-the-shelf choice, we can create a gooseneck to suit your special requirements. We will need an accurate drawing of your mast section and it will take a few weeks to have the part made.

All the usual SAILSetc possibilities and options are available. This page allows the browser to specify the design of the item he wants.

Body size

The price of the basic body part, whether for a ball raced or a standard gooseneck, depends on the section of the mast and height of gooseneck body required. These factors are both closely linked to the displacement/stability of the boat, so the choices are similar to our usual gooseneck options.

For a gooseneck body up to 50 mm high and to suit a mast up to 15 x 10 mm, choose the smallest size. For a gooseneck body up to 60 mm high and to suit a mast up to 20 x 12.5 mm, choose the medium size. For a gooseneck body up to 80 mm high and to suit a mast up to 25 x 15 mm, choose the largest size.

Major choices

  • Type of bearings - ball raced or standard
  • Type of boom end fitting - SAILSetc, round, or none (i.e. the tang only)
  • Normal kicking strap (vang) or compression strut (kicking strut)

But there are many other possibilities and options. Rather than try to list them all, this page allows the browser to specify the design of the item he wants.

Standard features:

  • Standard goosenecks have a stainless steel tang
  • Drill and fasteners to attach gooseneck body to the mast.

Choose the following features:

  • Type of bearings - ball raced or standard
  • Type of boom end fitting - SAILSetc, round, or none (i.e. the tang only)
  • Normal kicking strap (vang) or compression strut (kicking strut)

Axis alignment

The design of the gooseneck body will ensure it is aligned with the mast perfectly. If the effect of a tilted axis gooseneck is required (also known as adjustable axis gooseneck, variable axis gooseneck) then it is a simple matter to place a packer of the required thickness under one end of the gooseneck body before it is fixed to the mast tube. Use deck patch material or other self-adhesive material to achieve this. For a 60 mm long body a 1.0 mm thickness will tilt the axis by 1 degree. One layer of SAILSetc deck patch material will tilt the axis by 0.1 degree.

Maintenance of the bearings used in ball raced versions of this product is describedhere.

Compression strut for a boom also known as a gnav.
