Dyneema - 55 kg - various colours
Details
Dyneema - 55 kg. For running rigging, choice of colours, braided. 0.6 mm Ø, 20 or 100 metres.
Choose from: white, yellow, orange, red, blue and black.
This is a tightly braided, 8 braid, line.
Use only Dyneema rigging line on competition boats. The wear and stretch resistance is superior to that for Dacron.
Use with 057-120 bowsies. Dyneema does not melt so you cannot seal the end of the line or a knot by using a flame or soldering iron. Instead cut Dyneema with very sharp scissors to ensure a clean cut. Alternatively use a thin cyanoacrylate glue to stiffen the line where it is to be cut and use a sharp cutting knife (we use snap off blades to ensure a sharp edge) on a cutting mat to make a clean cut at an acute angle to the line. This provides a neat needle like point that can be threaded through bowsies and other fittings.
Use a figure of eight, stopper or stevedore knot with bowsies. Use a loop with an overhand knot or a bowline with hooks. Seal knots with a spot of cyanoacrylate glue.
Does SAILSetc Dyneema line fray?
Fraying of any line, however strong it is, will happen when it runs over a sharp edge on a fairlead or boom band. If your lines persistently suffer this sort of damage, replacing them with another line will not help. The problem is with the fitting, not the line. All SAILSetc fittings designed to be used as fairleads or boom bands are de-burred and tumbled to remove internal and external sharp edges - use them to replace your faulty fittings to eliminate frayed lines.
