Use item INS-080 to make a secure connection for the ballast to the fin that allows the ballast to be removed.

The ballast form is chosen to lower the VCG, lower the form drag and lower the induced drag when the boat is sailing to windward. As used on the A Class SWORD successfully for many years until replaced by the wider version.

Self adhesive coarse abrasive paper bonded to 3 mm ply to make a 'file' is excellent for fairing the surface after using a Surform blade. The 40 grade is particularly useful followed by 120 grade . See SAILSetc product WD-COARSE.
