Straight single strand construction makes this wire perfect for pushing down the narrow luff pocket of a headsail or mainsail and for backstay and shrouds that do not coil up when taken off the boat.

Use for forestay, backstay and shrouds for boats smaller than 1 metre. Use for topping lifts and jacklines for boats from 10R & 6M to A Class and over.

Wind the wire over itself to create a neat termination. No special tool is required if you take care.

Consider using flat section rigging wire ref. WFLAT which has approximately 90% less windage than round section rigging wire when sailing to windward.

Q How do I get the luff wire down the pocket of a sail luff?

A Make sure you are using either straight single strand wire or seven strand wire - 0.6 mm Ø for IOM, Marblehead, Ten Rater and 6 Metre sails. Use 0.45 mm Ø for mainsails that need a jackstay/jackline and for rigging on boats smaller than 1 metre.

Place the sail on a firm flat surface. Use a fine file or abrasive paper to ensure the end you will push into the pocket does not have a sharp point or chisel like edge. If you don't do this you run the risk of damaging the luff tape. Introduce the end into the luff pocket and, while holding the sail down with one hand, use the other hand to push the wire in 100 mm at a time until it emerges from the other end.
